Who We Are

Along Texas’s eastern border lies a land of stunning natural beauty. Here—in the Pineywoods—wildlife abounds. Opportunities for recreation are numberless. History runs deep: it was here, in the “Cradle of Texas,” that settlers from parts east first arrived. Yet this incredible natural environment and its historical attractions remain largely undiscovered.

You can change that—and see a Texas you’ve never seen—by coming to the Pineywoods. A Pineywoods trip, whether a weeklong vacation or just a weekend, is sure to be a pleasure. You’ll see amazing sights--and, everywhere you go, the people of the Pineywoods will greet you eagerly.

But the satisfactions of the Texas Pineywoods Experience run deeper than adventure, relaxation, and getting to know some friendly folks. By including the Pineywoods in your travel plans, you’ll be playing an important part in strengthening the region’s economy and making sure its natural wonders are kept safe for future generations.

About the Texas Pineywoods Experience

The Texas Pineywoods Experience is a Sustainable Tourism Program of The Conservation Fund, which is the nation’s foremost environmental nonprofit dedicated to protecting America’s most important landscapes and waterways for future generations. The Texas Pineywoods Experience was initiated in 2006 and aims to combine economic development and tourism to protect the Pineywoods region and leverage millions of dollars from public and private sources to promote economic growth in the area.

The Texas Pineywoods Experience is looking to work with motivated community leaders who are passionate about the Pineywoods. These advocates may be found in convention and visitors bureaus, chambers of commerce, economic development corporations, local businesses, non-profit organizations, education, local government, and individuals. Forming close working relationships with committed community leaders is a critical factor in the success of tourism development projects.

About The Conservation Fund

The Conservation Fund pioneers a balanced, non-advocacy, non-membership approach to conservation, one that blends environmental and economic goals and objectives. Since its founding in 1985, the Fund has helped its partners safeguard wildlife habitat, working farms and forests, community greenspace, and historic sites totaling more than 6 million acres.
