Texas Completes First Forest Legacy Project
In January, The Conservation Fund and its partners announced a landmark conservation deal to protect more than 2,800 acres next to Big Thicket National Preserve in East Texas. Texas competed nationally with 90 other projects and was one of 35 selected for 2008 Forest Legacy funding. Read more »
Angelina County Boosted By Plan
Angelina CountyPeople in East Texas are buzzing about "green infrastructure," a strategic network of natural areas and working landscapes that improve environmental, social and economic health.

In December, The Conservation Fund completed a regional Green Infrastructure Plan, developed in coordination with local officials and the citizens of Angelina County, Texas. Read more »

The plan is already producing results. Through technical assistance, the National Park Service is helping the Angelina Trails Planning Project reach its goal--a 75-mile trail network connecting the towns of Lufkin, Diboll and Huntington with the area's natural resources.

Mitigation Banks Opens For Business
Texas Pineywoods, © Michael EasonThe Pineywoods Mitigation Bank encompasses more than 19,000 acres along the Neches River, traveling through Angelina, Jasper and Polk counties. The new bank will restore native bottomland hardwood forest and provide a wildlife corridor between Davy Crockett and Angelina national forests. Read more »
