Housed in a historic 1905 church, the Museum of East Texas possesses an extensive collection of paintings and sculpture produced by regional artists. Artifacts related to East Texas history include clothing, tools, and furniture. Holdings also include more than five thousand negatives by Clyde N. Merrill, a commercial photographer in Lufkin from the turn of the 20th century through the 1970s--an invaluable record of the city’s commercial and social life. The institution hosts traveling art exhibits, sponsors educational programming for children and adults, and offers docent-guided tours.
